For the price, I would have assumed that the documents would straighten themselves through the software automatically. I'd have to hold the paper/receipts steady to make sure they scan straight. I use the scan to USB feature a lot, so I don't know if the scans come out straight or crooked until I view them on a computer.Wifi setup is such a pain if you've changed your wireless network in any form, either a name change or password change. Wifi scanning was nice while it lasted. Now that I changed my wifi password, it doesn't work anymore and I have no idea how to set it back up. So I'm using the scan to USB feature now.I think those two points are a negative enough to take a star off for each.I'm not a tech-savvy type of person. I like accessible (and easy) technology, which is why I like this scanner. I was able to google the name of the brand and download everything to install it on my computer. I ordered a refurbished scanner, and everything was in the box except the USB cable you need to install to your computer. So that's why the minus one star. I have not used it as a portable. But if that's what you want it for that purpose, it's pretty light and small (not too small, but enough to carry it around anywhere). Before I get into this, I want to mention that I scan documents regularly and my go-to in the home/home-office setting is the ScanSnap iX500, which is a heavier duty unit in a totally different category. If you don't need portability and you can justify the expense (at this point, the ScanSnaps are over $600: ouch), then definitely go with the ScanSnap, because it is the best document scanner I have used in the last decade. Also, as another disclaimer, I want to mention that my first one of these arrived, new, in the box, with a DOA wi-fi antenna. I spent more than a few minutes troubleshooting/diagnosing it and, while the RMA process was painless, it sucks to get a DOA product. All of that said, the Brother ADS-1250w is a highly portable document scanner that performs minimally, both in terms of quality and reliability. If your use case is scanning one or two pages at a time while on the road or in the cafe and you're not looking for super high quality, then yes, as most other reviews point out, this is the scanner for you.If, however, you are going to be scanning contracts, manuscripts or anything that is more than a few pages -OR- if you have non-trivial quality or performance requirements, my advice would be to bite the bullet, sacrifice some portability and look at larger, less-portable scanners.Trying to scan larger documents wirelessly on this device will result in a lot of wasted time and effort: - wi-fi "direct" connectivity is dodgy and there is often several seconds of lag between hitting "scan" in the app and the start of the scan. - on a related note, the odds of a job dying and taking the scanner down with it are pretty good: I scanned a dozen pages just now and two of my pages just died, requiring restart the whole scanner (neither the Stop button nor opening the top lid worked to reset the machine: womp womp). - due to its ultra-portable form factor, the odds of documents can get wrinkled/bent going through the scanner (requiring re-scans) are good and, ultimately, you're going to be scanning the same page a few times. - the proprietary Brother phone app required for scanning to phone kind of sucks on both Android and iOS (which is impressive, because most apps suck on one platform or the other and not both) and you will struggle with it on either platform: whoever designed the workflow of the app is manifestly unfamiliar with UI patterns on mobile devices.tl;dr The ultra-portable form factor is impressive, but this scanner just isn't a.) reliable or b.) a very good scanner. It's hard to recommend this to anyone, especially someone who needs performance in a professional, on-the-road setting.I'm quite ambivalent about this scanner. On the positive side, it's a pretty nice piece of hardware for $230. It holds its own against the Fujitsu sheetfed scanners, which cost hundreds more. Scanning is fast and the quality is good (when you can get it to work), and the sheet feeder works reliably. On the other hand, this is definitely a personal-use item. The first rowdy teenager that tries to scan a document will likely break off pieces of the delicate plastic feed guides.Other than that, the negatives all have to do with software and configuration. As many have noted, the kit doesn't include a USB cable, so forget trying to set it up until you get your hands on one of the unusual USB3 cables it requires. In theory, you can set up the scanner for network use without a USB cable. However, the specified procedure for doing that simply doesn't work. And it doesn't matter anyway: once you configure the scanner by using a USB cable, the Scan button STILL won't work unless the scanner is hard-wired.I was curious to see what response the scanner was expecting from the network, so I hooked up a network sniffer, a piece of software that catalogs and saves every data packet that appears on the net. I can see the network setup configuration data being sent from the Mac configuration app to the scanner, and the scanner seems to accept it just fine. But when the Scan button is pressed, the scanner does absolutely nothing. It never even attempts to contact the intended recipient of the scan data on the network.I would suggest that buyers think of this thing as a wired scanner. Just ignore the putative network features. They function only well enough to lure you into wasting a couple of hours trying to set them up.The application for readable documents requires that you do not use the folder set up in advance as seen in iprint software by brother. The way to do this is use the icon provided on iprint on the computer, so you can do repeated scans and even replace a bad scan (old paper). then the trick is to save to pdf which you must select options for the readable documents pdf. otherwise, you will have to start over. You may be able to select a folder with the readable document but it saves to iprint folder selected and no repair of the group or add more selection.the roller is special material and grabs paper accurately and the option to aline paper works accurately.iprint represented on youtube lacks this and other people who do not like are not trained or paid biased. I look forward to a compact design to transport with brother printer which can be placed into a roller suitcase for travel.Bought this as a replacement for a scanner, which was needed on short notice. Same day delivery… Awesome! Arrived with no connection cables. No worries… says it is wireless… EXCEPT you can’t set it up wireless without installing it with a cable. Ok. Quick run to staples to get a USB to USB cable as shown in the instructions…. WRONG… need a USB to USB-c adapter. So frustrating. INCLUDE THE REQUIRED CABLES!!!!!!!BE WARNED: No usb cables come with this device!Set our project (in a remote location) back 2 days!!!!Brother has always been a good product for me, I have deployed 100s of their printers. This was a very disappointing cheap out to not include cables.super qualité, facile a opérer léger tout petit en plein ce dont j'avais besoin....j;ai remplace une super bon numérateur (qui n'était plus compatible a Win 10) sérieusement surprise de la belle qualité vs son prixAparte de rápida, tiene mejoras de imagen, salta imagen en blanco, alinea la página, que muy satisfecho y sobre todo el excelente servicio de atención al cliente de Amazon. The unit itself was good - a little bit to be carrying around but doable. My biggest issue was that it perpetually pulled the paper in skewed. If you were really picky on how the paper was put in the tray then you could get a fairly straight scan. I was just disappointed to have to fiddle so much when using a piece of equipment for how it was designed.
